The International Mozarteum Foundation’s Media Productions
Highlights of the Mozart Week from 1956 until today on CD and DVD

For some years now the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg has been issuing past and current recordings of major concert and stage productions as CDs and DVDs.

Since 2014, in cooperation with the label belvedere edition and treasures from the archives of ORF, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation, the Mozarteum Foundation has published its own edition containing highlights of the Mozart Week from its inauguration in 1956 until today.

The most recent achievements are two DVDs of Mozart’s String Quintets from the Mozart Week 2014 with Renaud Capuçon, Alina Ibragimova, Léa Hennino, Gérard Caussé and Clemens Hagen.

As Matthias Schulz, executive artistic director and general manager of the Mozarteum Foundation stated, “Of course no CD or DVD can replace the personal and direct experience of attending a concert, and the live atmosphere in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation is unique. Nevertheless, we are really pleased that we are now gradually able to bring to light some of the outstanding performances of the past.”

The history of current and past interpretations is made audible on these carefully restored sound documents in excellent listening quality. Specific characteristics as regards interpretation and the artistic exploration of meaning are revealed on these recordings by renowned artists such as Wilhelm Backhaus, Barbara Bonney, Clara Haskil, Herbert von Karajan, András Schiff and Sándor Végh, who made a major contribution to the Mozart Week, some from the very beginning.

During the Mozart Week 2015 the unique production of Davide penitente with Bartabas and the Académie équestre de Versailles in the Felsenreitschule was televised and recorded on DVD.

Mozart’s original instruments are further jewels owned by the Mozarteum Foundation. Concerts using these instruments were recorded in past decades as well as in the recent past, for instance with Marc Minkowski and Les Musiciens du Louvre in the Mozart Week 2015 as well as during the Mozart Week 2016 in the Dancing Master’s Hall in the Mozart Residence on the Makartplatz.

Cooperation on further projects, such as the recording of all Mozart’s piano sonatas performed by Fazil Say in the Great Hall of the Mozarteum Foundation or the current recording of a new album with mezzo-soprano Marianne Crebassa and the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Marc Minkowski, reflect the broad range of media productions of the International Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg, as well as important publications in print produced for important anniversaries or celebrations.
