GREATNESS IS ACHIEVED BY PLAYING TOGETHER:
THE MOZART GESELLSCHAFT DORTMUND

Since it was founded in the year 1956 the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund (www.mozart-gesellschaft-dortmund.de) has had two great aims: to cultivate Mozart’s music and to promote young musicians through grants, prizes, concert engagements, master classes and CD productions. The Mozart Gesellschaft promotes young artists who have qualified themselves through winning prizes at international music competitions and have been able to impress audiences and the experts with their outstanding musical ability. Up until now the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund has given financial support to nearly 100 musicians and thereby has been able to smooth their path in the hard musical business.

In order to give these musicians financial support the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund depends on its members since it is run on a private basis and without public subsidies. During the more than 50 years of its existence the number of members has increased impressively: from the few Mozart enthusiasts at the beginning it has become a community of nearly 600 patrons. Their membership contributions and the proceeds from the concerts provide 90% of the income with which the Mozart Gesellschaft works and from which the scholarship holders receive their grants. A further 7% of the budget is composed of donations from sponsors and partners.

In co-operation with patrons and sponsors the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund is able to ensure that the works of Mozart are regularly performed – not only his famous works, but also works which are performed less often. Since 1956 more than 200 Mozart matinees and 1,870 chamber concerts have taken place – first of all in the hall of the Chamber of Commerce and then in the Dortmund Opera House. Since 2002 the concerts have taken place monthly on a Sunday morning from September until April in the excellent accoustics of the Dortmund Konzerthaus. Incidentally these matinees are one of the few concert series in Germany which are sold out on a regular basis – convincing proof of the quality in the choice of programme and artists.

Tickets for the 2011/2012 season are available from the Geschäftsstelle (office) of the Mozart Gesellschaft.
