"Dialoge Luft" 28.11 – 02.12.2012

Matthias Schulz has taken over the programming of the festival Dialoge, this year under the heading Luft (Air) featuring new content, and in which a triangular relationship is evolved between three composers: Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, Claude Debussy and Manfred Trojahn.

“Until Debussy no one was able to compose air like Mozart did: rather like the blessing of the gently circling breeze when the storm has ceased...” (Ivan Nagel).

Music is oscillating air. Air forms the medium in which music resounds.  It has always been a topic central to music.  Wolfgang Amadé Mozart and Claude Debussy created particularly haunting sound descriptions of the wind, of storms and of air.

Manfred Trojahn has repeatedly followed the traces of these two composers and been inspired by them.  For the Dialoge Luft he is going to seek the proximity to Mozart and Debussy in two new works. Thus the Dialoge become a space for concert experiments which construct a ménage à trois: a triangular relationship as a constellation between the works of three composers, in which each enters a relationship with each of the others – just as each point in a triangle is linked to the others.

Fragments also play a special role; one by Mozart (the autograph is owned by the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation) will be integrated by Trojahn into Libera me which will be juxtaposed with Mozart’s Requiem on the last evening. The works Michelangelo and the Trakl fragments will also be performed.

In Atmosphères, a musical collage about air is created, dedicated to Ivan Nagel.

The Dialoge Luft also comprise live painting, the coming together of a quartet, a discussion about concert experiments and the awarding of a prize.
